Frequently Asked Questions

What is occupational therapy & how does it benefit babies, toddlers, and children?

Occupational therapists are skilled in assessing, problem solving, and developing interventions and treatment plans for individuals that are facing challenges engaging in the everyday, meaningful activities of daily life. For pediatrics, a few of those important activities are feeding and playing. At Uplift, we are trained to holistically assess and treat infant and toddler feeding difficulties by: improving oral motor strength and coordination skills needed for sucking, chewing, & swallowing, identifying oral structural deficits, facilitating developmental milestones, and optimizing positioning during feeds. Additionally, we can confidently address fine, visual, and gross motor skills, motor coordination skills (ex: self-feeding and dressing skills), executive functioning skills (following directions, sequencing, and attention to task), social and emotional skills (ex: social interaction and emotional regulation) & sensory processing skills.

What is the difference between occupational therapy services and caregiver coaching services?

Occupational therapy services require a referral from your child’s pediatrician and could potentially be reimbursable services; however, caregiver coaching services do not require a referral and are not eligible for reimbursement.

Will my service be covered by insurance?

If you choose, with any occupational therapy service, you will receive a super bill that documents your service, date of service, payment, and billing code(s) that possibly makes you eligible for reimbursement with your insurance company. Receiving reimbursement is not a guarantee; however, you can call your insurance company for clarification.

Can I upgrade to a package after my first service?

Yes! You will have 48 hours following your first service to upgrade to a package option.

I am in the north Alabama area, but not in Limestone county or Athens, can I still receive in-home services?

Absolutely! A traveling fee will be added for up to a 30 mile radius from Limestone County; however, we offer virtual services for those not local to the north Alabama area or are outside of the 30 mile radius.
